On Aug. 29 and Sept. 1, Hospital Council hosted introductory meetings with the candidates for two open county supervisor seats, District 3 in Alameda County (cities of Alameda, San Leandro, and part of Oakland) and District 4 in Contra Costa County (cities of Concord, Pleasant Hill, and part of Walnut Creek). Each race has two candidates who will face each other in the November election. One of the Alameda County supervisor candidates has experience serving on a hospital district board. One of the Contra Costa County supervisor candidates previously served on the board of a hospital-based community health foundation.
The meetings were an important opportunity to learn about the candidates and educate them on our key priorities — all with the goal of building relationships early before they are elected to office. Behavioral health, workforce, and addressing the social determinants of health (food and housing) were the health policy topics the candidates raised most often, and we were pleased to discuss those important priorities with them.
