What

In 2009, at the request of East Bay hospitals, Hospital Council drafted an East Bay Hospital Mutual Aid Agreement. The agreement is voluntary, with the goal of assisting hospitals in meeting Joint Commission emergency management standards and supporting each hospital or health system’s disaster plan. The agreement is not intended to override any arrangements that hospitals have with counties or other entities around disaster response and planning, and continues to remain in effect.

In light of hospitals’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hospital Council recently convened East Bay hospital emergency planners to review the agreement and make any needed changes. A revised agreement has been approved and is now out for updated signatures. Thirteen years later, the East Bay Hospital Mutual Aid Agreement continues to play a significant role in supporting East Bay hospitals as they stand together in times of crisis.
