Since June, Hospital Council, along with not-for-profit OneFifteen, has been convening a wide range of stakeholders in Humboldt County to discuss optimizing care for behavioral health patients in the county. The discussion has specifically focused on individuals who linger in the emergency department for lack of services. Through a course of working sessions, this collaborative decided to apply for Round 5 of Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Project (BHCIP) dollars to both build out a crisis stabilization unit and expand upon a proposal drafted by Waterfront Recovery Services to increase substance use disorder treatment in Humboldt County. Achieving plan consensus was no mean feat, and much credit goes to OneFifteen’s vision and tremendous background work in developing a proposal for a center that maximizes the benefit to Humboldt County while also ensuring long-term sustainability.
In November, project leadership shifted to CalPoly Humboldt State and Humboldt County, with active involvement from the Humboldt County hospitals. The county is on track to submit an application for Round 5 BHCIP funds and both Hospital Council and OneFifteen eagerly anticipate news of the grant award.
