On Oct. 28, Dr. Jeff Smith, the county administrator for Santa Clara, publicly announced his retirement. On Nov. 1, the Board of Supervisors appointed a new chief administrative officer, James Williams. This decision was made in closed session on Oct. 17. The supervisors are confident in his ability, and believe he encompasses all of the county’s values. They feel this will eliminate the need for a costly search.
Several county unions, nonprofits, and some community members believe this was not a transparent process, and are asking the Board of Supervisors to reconsider their appointment.
Hospital Council sent a congratulatory email to Mr. Williams on behalf of our members asking him to attend a section meeting.
