All Hands on Deck

As hospitals face some of the greatest challenges in our long history, there is strength in unity — and a critical need for action. While the California Hospital Association continues its advocacy at both the state and federal levels, Hospital Council is doing its part to amplify hospital voices — ensuring lawmakers understand, in real and local terms, the devastating impact Medicaid cuts would have on the delivery of health care to all Californians.

Our latest efforts include:

  • Joining Sacramento County elected officials and health care providers in conversations with local congressional office staff to discuss concerns about cuts to Medicaid and other federal funding
  • Working with the East Bay Leadership Council — which advocates for employers in Contra Costa County, as well as part of Alameda County — on a letter to its congressional delegation opposing federal cuts to Medicaid
  • Sharing hospitals’ significant concerns about Medicaid cuts and other pressing issues with the Contra Costa County and Alameda County boards of supervisors
  • Connecting several Northern Sierra hospitals with the California Health Care Foundation to share the impact Medicaid cuts would have in their communities (as the foundation publishes these blogs, they will be shared with federal lawmakers)
  • Participating in next week’s Cap-to-Cap meetings in Washington, D.C., to communicate the real impact that proposed health care cuts will have on hospitals and patients in the Sacramento region

This work will continue as policy proposals are introduced and advanced — because ensuring hospitals have the resources necessary to continue providing life-changing, lifesaving care is a priority for all of us.
