East Bay Health Officers Issue Orders on Masking for Respiratory Virus Season Starting Nov. 1

Who

  • Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano County health officers

What

New health orders in Alameda and Contra Costa counties require masking in hospitals, skilled-nursing facilities, dialysis clinics, and infusion centers during the respiratory virus season from Nov. 1, 2023, through April 30, 2024. For hospitals, the orders apply to staff who only work in direct inpatient care areas and require masking regardless of an individual’s flu or COVID vaccination status. These orders are in alignment with other masking orders issued throughout the Bay Area. Read more about the Alameda County order and Contra Costa County order.

Solano County issued its own separate order and recommendation. Solano County’s order recommends, but does not require, flu vaccination, COVID-19 vaccination, and masking for all health care personnel that work in hospitals and other licensed health care facilities for the same time period.
