East Bay Hospitals Focus on Relationship Building in Support of 2025 Priorities

Who

  • East Bay hospitals

What

Following the November 2024 election, the East Bay section’s priorities are to build relationships with newly elected officials throughout the section, as well as continue to educate and connect with our long-standing legislators and county supervisors on the critical issues facing hospitals. All three East Bay counties have new county health department leaders, so it is imperative to establish relationships with this important group.

Since the start of the year, Hospital Council has helped to convene East Bay hospital leaders for the following meetings and hospital visits:

  • A tour at NorthBay Health for Assemblymember Lori Wilson, in conjunction with the California Hospital Association, where state legislative priorities were discussed
  • A roundtable at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland with Rep. Lateefah Simon and House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark from Massachusetts, where discussion included the potential impact of program changes and budget cuts to Medicaid on hospitals, patients, and communities
  • A meeting with the new Solano County Health and Social Services Department director and her leadership team, where discussion included the county’s vision for the future, Senate Bill 43, Proposition 1 implementation plans, new initiatives to improve access to primary care, and health care workforce partnerships

Takeaway/Next Steps

Starting in April, there will be a series of individual meetings with county supervisors in all three East Bay counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano.
