What
On June 5, Hospital Council presented at a special joint meeting of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors Health and ACT for All Ad Hoc committees, joining other providers in offering insights as to how federal Medicaid cuts will impact the community. Hospital Council shared the devastating impact of the cuts currently under consideration, which would cause many Californians to lose their health care coverage and access to necessary primary and preventive health care services, ultimately increasing the number of patients who seek care in hospital emergency departments. Supervisors expressed dismay at the magnitude of the funding cuts to hospitals and how the budget reconciliation bill will further compound hospitals’ worsening financial situation.
The board established the ACT for All Ad Hoc Committee this year to track and respond to the federal regulatory and legislative changes affecting Alameda County services and residents. Other organizations presenting at the joint committee meeting included representatives from federally qualified health centers, behavioral health care providers, human immunodeficiency virus prevention and treatment programs, and providers specializing in reproductive health and gender-affirming care. A recording of the meeting is available online.
Takeaway/Next Steps
Hospital Council has been invited to participate in Alameda County Health’s Community Advisory Provider Group (CAPG). CAPG’s next meeting is in July and will focus on cross-sector planning and coordination in response to federal and state budgets and subsequent policy changes.
