On Nov. 10, Rebecca Rozen participated in a meeting with Assemblymember Bill Quirk (D-Hayward), along with member hospitals in his district and CHA’s advocacy team.
Hospitals shared how they have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic and their ongoing financial challenges. There was then a robust discussion on the seismic issue, with the assemblymember offering to help hospitals in next year’s legislative session.
In the East Bay, there were several local races and ballot measures of interest.
- State Assembly District 25: Democrat Alex Lee won this open seat in the Fremont area. At 25, he will be the youngest member of the state Assembly. This is his first elected office.
- Board of Supervisors: Contra Costa County Supervisor Federal Glover won re-election following an unexpected run-off. David Haubert, Dublin mayor, is leading in the race to fill an open seat on the Alameda County Board of Supervisors with almost 54% of the vote.
- Alameda and Contra Costa County Local Ballot Measures: Both Alameda and Contra Costa counties had sales tax measures on the ballot. The measures need only a majority vote to pass. Funds will go into the county’s general fund for various health and social service needs. Measure W in Alameda County, which would raise funds for housing and mental health services, is extremely close with 50% voting yes. Measure X in Contra Costa County, which would raise funds for the county hospital and safety net services, is winning with 58% voting yes.
