UCSF Health officially broke ground at its Parnassus Medical Center on April 27. The ceremony was attended by a slew of local, state, and national dignitaries, including Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis (D-CA), Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), San Francisco Mayor London Breed, UC Regent John Perez, UC Regent Janet Reilly, UC President Michael Drake, and UCSF Chancellor Sam Hawgood.
All spoke of UCSF and businessman Mark Zuckerberg as the city’s “crown jewels” but also acknowledged that San Francisco is rich in health resources with some of the best hospitals serving the community and supporting important medical research.
