What
On June 16, chief nursing executives from across San Francisco met with administrators and professors from nursing schools throughout the Bay Area, including University of San Francisco, City College of San Francisco, College of San Mateo, Gurnick, and others. The purpose of this summit was to explore current workforce needs, discuss challenges related to training and readiness, and strengthen existing career pathway partnerships.
Takeaway/Next Steps
The challenges are many, but the group identified numerous opportunities to collaborate across the city. The summit also produced consensus around next steps, which include two tracks: (1) deepening connections with schools and certification programs to ensure a well-trained pipeline into nursing, and (2) advocating for policy changes within the California Board of Registered Nursing and other entities to streamline training requirements. The hope is to serve as a model for effective partnerships that yield a measurable impact on workforce needs.
