San Francisco Eyes Potential Expansion of Behavioral Health Beds

Who

  • UCSF Health
  • San Francisco Department of Public Health

What

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors is set to approve a resolution authorizing the San Francisco Department of Public Health to submit applications for grant funds to the state’s Department of Health Care Services under the Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program Round 1: Launch Ready.

These funds would support a 56-bed behavioral health unit at UCSF Health Saint Francis Hospital. This unit would be similar to the Crestwood model, with UCSF Health providing the space and the county contracting for services with another provider.

Takeaway/Next Steps

This potential expansion of beds would make an immediate impact and help to mitigate the current unrelenting drain of scarce resources.
