In Wake Of Supervisor Recall, Shasta County HHS Director Resigns

Who

Shasta County

What

While COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations are trending downward, the impacts of the pandemic will be felt for some time. Most notable are workforce challenges, both in the short and long term, and for both clinical and non-clinical positions. Another impact has been the recall of a county supervisor in Shasta County, where many opponents voiced strong opposition to county and state efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19. Local hospitals and other providers have worked diligently and successfully to educate staff to follow masking and vaccination requirements. In part because of the recall effort and the rancor and threats that led up to it, Shasta County’s Health and Human Services Agency director has announced his retirement. Organizers of the recall have expressed a desire for their efforts to be replicated in other counties.
