What

On July 9, Hospital Council hosted a meeting in Shasta County of hospital and county behavioral health leaders. Kirsten Barlow, California Hospital Association vice president, policy, informed the group about significant and process-changing laws and programs coming to behavioral health. While counties have been given much responsibility for implementation, participants agreed that collaboration is necessary.

Takeaway/Next Steps

County representatives committed to expanding quarterly emergency medical services meetings to include county public health and Partnership HealthPlan and focus on coordinating care and patient handoffs for those needing behavioral health services. Hospitals agreed to assign a point person for the county on collaborative efforts. Lastly, county representatives committed to supporting the opening of a hospital-based crisis stabilization unit that is awaiting county approval.
