Who
- San Francisco Department of Public Health
- San Francisco Mayor London Breed
- Yes on B campaign
What
San Francisco hospitals are in full support of the city’s Proposition (Prop) B, which is a $390 million bond proposition on the November ballot that would fund critical health care infrastructure. Importantly, most of the bond money would go into seismic retrofits, as well as needed upgrades and expansions at San Francisco General Hospital, Laguna Honda Hospital, and the Chinatown Public Health Center. Additionally, about $71 million would go toward planned public space improvements; $50 million would go for shelters and interim housing, including for homeless families; and $63.9 million would go to repave streets and revamp roads and sidewalks. The proposition needs two-thirds of voters to approve it.
Recent polling shows some challenges in getting this across the threshold, including wide concerns about the cost and lack of oversight and accountability for yet another bond. Notably, voters expressed high levels of support when asked specifically about bond funding for the hospitals. Hospital Council has encouraged support of this measure from our business community partners and other important community allies.
Takeaway/Next Steps
Hospital Council will continue to advocate for this measure through voter engagement opportunities and by sharing information with our hospital members.
