As health care workers continue to feel the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, many are leaving the profession altogether. In rural Arcata, CA, once affordable housing has become the exception, making it even more difficult for a local hospital to recruit and retain employees. To ease the burden on its workers and ensure access to care for its patients, Mad River Community Hospital owns three homes and leases a handful of apartments for its staff.
