What

San Mateo County Health Officer Kismet Baldwin-Santana, MD, is interested in more collaboration with hospitals on public health issues in emergency rooms. Dr. Baldwin-Santana has been with San Mateo County for a little over six months and would like to gain a better understanding of opioid use in the county.

The first meeting with San Mateo County hospitals is scheduled for mid-February. The goal is to gain a better understanding of how each hospital screens opioid overdoses for those who either come in with an overdose or overdose in the emergency room.

Takeaway / Next Steps

San Mateo County hospitals will meet with the county’s data team to get a bigger picture of the opioid crisis locally.
