Addressing Violence in Our Hospitals

Recent horrific mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, N.Y., have the country discussing and searching its soul once again about what can be done about gun violence. Even more concerning for our hospitals are the attacks at Tulsa’s St. Francis Hospital, where the shooter killed four people and then himself, and the stabbing of a doctor and two nurses at Southern California’s Encino Hospital. These incidents highlighted the vulnerability of our hospitals and health care facilities.

Advisory Calls For Timely Patches to Avoid Top Cyber Risks

Cybersecurity authorities in the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and United Kingdom are advising organizations to apply timely patches and implement a centralized patch management system to reduce their risk of compromise from the most common cyber vulnerabilities exploited by malicious cyber actors in 2021. 

No Quick or Easy Solution for Offload Delays

It’s a years-long problem with a long name: ambulance patient offload delays (APOD). This long-standing issue is wreaking havoc on the health care system, not just in our region but throughout the state and the country. And while there may not be a quick and easy solution, CHA and Hospital Council are actively engaging on this important issue with the state’s Emergency Medical Services Agency as well as local officials.
